1. Promote an organizational culture of diversity and inclusion by focusing on our Resolutions of Respect and No Place for Hate initiatives.
2. Reduce the number of families on the waiting list for ABA services for their children with autism by developing Board Certified staff (BCBAs). HMEA, in partnership with Cambridge College, subsidizes a master’s degree program leading to certification.
3. Develop partnerships that advance the mission, improve financial position, and create greater mutual value. HMEA is the lead agency of the DD-EHR Consortium, which, through a collaborative, evidence-based information network, produces the best EHR for
I/DD agencies to meet their missions and improve performance.
4. Create a data driven culture and employ technology for operations and marketing to improve service quality through data analytics and create efficiencies. Exponentially increase on-line training/training on-demand to meet the needs of a mobile and decentralized workforce.
5. Continue collaboration with Dell EMC on the launch of the Autism Advantage @Work, a first-of-its-kind pilot program in Massachusetts that matches employers with skilled people on the autism spectrum seeking technology employment. This successful pilot is leading the way to partnership with other corporations to replicate the program.
HMEA’s incredABLE 5K – Each May, HMEA holds its major fundraising event, hosted by Dell Technologies in Franklin, MA. Over 2,000 people and 200 volunteers and families come together for the day to raise more than $200,000. The event is hosted by Gene Lavanchy of Fox 25 News and Steve Nelson, former New England Patriot. There is free entertainment, food and drinks, fun activities for the kids and a 5K run in the morning followed by a community walk.
5K Run & Walk for Autism Acceptance – Each April, HMEA’s Autism Resource Central holds their 5K Run & Walk for Autism Acceptance at Quinsigamond State Park in Shrewsbury, MA. Over 3,000 people and 100 volunteers come together and raise nearly $200,000. There is free entertainment, food and drink, activities for the kids, music and much more.
Making Dreams Come True Annual Appeal Fall: HMEA e-mails and snail mails an appeal to families, supporters and businesses, asking them to donate at their highest level to benefit he individuals supported by HMEA. A gift to HMEA provides essential services, like early intervention, employment programs, school-to-work transition and respite care, that our children and adults with Autism and other developmental disabilities need so they can reach for independence.
Winter: HMEA gratefully accepts donations at the traditional gift-giving time of year.
Spring: An appeal is sent out to all past supporters who have yet to make their donation just prior to the close of the fiscal year.
Memorials and Honorariums are accepted and acknowledged in honor or memory of loved ones or in recognition of achievements and accomplishments of individuals.
In-Kind Donations of technology, equipment, home furnishings for residential services as well as communication devices and physical and orthopedic equipment and items for our raffles are gratefully accepted.
The Horace Mann Promise Society honors the donors who include HMEA into their estate plans. Donors of all walks of life at all income levels can promise that HMEA’s vital services and supports continue for decades to come. Your support ensures that people with Autism and other development disabilities receive the very best treatments and their families receive the support they need in perpetuity. To discuss how you can leave a bequest through your will, or name HMEA as a beneficiary on your insurance policy, bank accounts, or Special Needs Trust, please contact: Doug MacPherson, Vice President of Development, at 508-298-1105 or dmacpherson@hmea.org.
In fiscal year 2018, HMEA worked with more than 450 dedicated and caring volunteers who donated almost 1,500 hours of their time and talent. Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, as well as teams, to help at our annual incredABLE 5K in May, complete home improvement projects at our residences, or share a special talent or interest with the individuals we support. HMEA volunteers include corporate teams, who volunteer as a way to build teamwork while doing good, giving back and, at the same time, meeting business strategic goals of corporate social responsibility. For more information on our volunteer opportunities, contact Tracy Andryc at tandryc@hmea.org or 508-298-1129
