Larry Lucchino, who is 78 and chairman of the Worcester Red Sox minor league baseball team, said on a Nov. 7 episode of the UnAnchored Boston podcast he will soon be looking to sell the WooSox in advance of retirement and is potentially seeking out a local buyer. The team walked back those statements somewhat, but President Charles Steinberg did say the team has been fielding offers since 2021. The WooSox already have one local owner, when Ralph Crowley -- a member of the family that owns Polar Beverages in Worcester and Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton -- bought a minority stake in the team when it moved to the city from Rhode Island. Lucchino's comments have fueled speculation about the team's future ownership, although no potential names have been put forward by Lucchino or the team.
