Yankee Spirits Inc., which operates a well-known liquor store by the same name in Sturbridge, is opening its third location in Swansea.
Mike Cimini, president of Yankee Spirits, said his company received approval from Swansea's local licensing commission for the new store, which is expected to have about 22,000 square feet of retail space. The company also needs approval from the state Alcohol Beverage Control Commission. Crimini expects to have the new store up and running by Memorial Day.
In addition to the flagship Sturbridge location, Yankee Spirits also has a location in Attleboro, which opened in 1997.
Once the Swansea location is opened, Yankee Spirits will be done with expansion plans. According to state statute, one person or organization can own a maximum of three liquor stores.
Cimini said the Swansea location was ideal because it would tap into the Providence and Rhode Island market, which has been fruitful for the Attleboro location. He also said demographic information showed that people working in Providence are likely to go north or east to shop, but not both. As a result, Cimini is betting that his new store won't rob customers from his established location.
Having two relatively close locations will also streamline ad buys, according to Cimini.
The Swansea location has "completely separate demographics for consumers, but it shares almost all the same media," he said.
