The Worcester Redevelopment Authority has filed an eminent domain order of taking to acquire the MedStar Ambulance properties the city needs to build a $101-million stadium for the Worcester Red Sox minor league baseball team.
The combined price for the building and parking lot are $2 million, according to the taking filed last week with the Worcester Registry of Deeds.
The city has now either filed eminent domain takings or has agreed to deals to acquire all of the necessary land to facilitate the ballpark project.
The WRA authorized those eminent domain takings earlier this month, when it also came to agreements to acquire several other smaller properties along Washington Street, Plymouth Street and Gold Street for a combined $5.8 million.
That move included the acquisition of 90 Washington St., which will force three businesses – Table Talk Pies' offices, Auto Body Supplies and Paint, and Windstream – to relocate.
In April, the city filed eminent domain takings for 50 Washington St., 127 Washington St. and 134 Madison St., which house AMC Demolition, Paul's Auto Glass and retailer The Sublime Co. All those businesses will have to relocate. The city originally offered $1.4 million combined for those three properties.
Construction on the ballpark and the overall $240 million mixed-use project in the Canal District is expected to begin this summer.
Great idea if you would provide a description on a plan of lands as to what properties are going to fill in the ballpark. I am often asked that question and I can't answer exactly.
