Assumption College's new business school will be named for David Grenon, an honorary alumnus whose family has given a large donation to the Worcester school.

The Grenon School of Business will be named for the 1957 Assumption Prep graduate, who founded the Worcester insurance company today is known as the Marsh & McLennan Agency. His family made a seven-figure gift to Assumption, which the school said is the second largest it has received in its ongoing capital campaign. The Worcester college did not specific the exact amount of the donation.

The new business school will be part of a realignment of Assumption's academic departments into five schools. Along with business, they include the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Health Professions and the School of Graduate & Professional Studies.

Grenon founded and served as the president of The Protector Group Insurance Agency from 1980 to 1995. The company was sold to its employees in 1994 and is now the Marsh & McLennan Agency.

Grenon served as an Assumption trustee from 2002 to 2006 and chaired a fundraising campaign raising $33 million in support of building the Testa Science Center, a multi-sport stadium and building an endowment for greater financial aid.

Grenon serves on the advisory board of the Center for Church Management at Villanova University, where he earned an economics degree. He has also served on the boards of various groups in Central Massachusetts, including the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, the United Way of Central Massachusetts, Worcester Academy and the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, according to Assumption.
