Worcester Polytechnic Institute announced Thursday it was appointing its second-ever director of its Metal Processing Institute, as the organization expands globally for the first time with a new location in China.
Brajendra Mishra, who joined WPI in 2015 as associate director of MPI and director of its center for resource recovery and recycling, will take over as MPI director from Diran Apelian, who launched the institute in 1996.
MPI is the largest industry-university alliance in North America with private sector partnerships like New York x-ray inspection manufacturer VJ Technologies and Illinois high-performance alloy manufacturer QuesTek Innovations. MPI conducts research in metal casting, heat treating and materials processing.
The global expansion to China will take place later this year, with a new facility opening in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, dedicated to non-destructive evaluation.
