Wormtown partners with Spencer Brewery

Wormtown Brewery has contracted with Spencer Brewery to brew seasonal beers as the Worcester company pushes to meet strong demand.
In an announcement made yesterday, Wormtown officials said that they will partner with the Trappist monks of Spencer who have been brewing their own beer since 2014. The brands that will be contracted to Spencer Brewery include Blonde Cougar, Fresh Patch Pumpkin, Blizzard of ’78 and Punxsutawney Pils, according to a release from Wormtown.
“We don’t step into the contract brewing world lightly and knowing that they have a world class brewing team under Brewmaster Larry Littlehale, brewing our seasonals in a world class facility – well, it makes the decision pretty easy,” Ben Roesch, Wormtown’s Brewmaster and Founding Partner said in a statement.
Managing partner David Fields explained that the decision to contract out a portion of the company’s brewing was made due to huge demand for the company’s beer. In the last year the company has gone from a 6,500 barrel capacity to 18,000 barrels with plans to expand even more in the coming year.
Contracting out what will equate to approximately five percent of Wormtown’s brewing capacity will allow the brewery to meet the demands for its staple beers such as Be Hoppy as well as special series beers such as Hopulance and Buddha’s Juice.
Contract brewing has been a model adopted by other local breweries such as Westminster-based Wachusett, which contract brews for a number of breweries and brew pubs, but this will be the first time that Wormtown has contracted out any of its brewing.
