The unemployment rate in Worcester County moved slightly upwards in October, mirroring statewide numbers.
The unemployment rate in the county was 2.7%, a 0.1% increase from September, according to data released by the Massachusetts Department of Economic Research on Tuesday. Despite the increase, unemployment rates remain lower than last October’s rate of 3.5%.
The city of Worcester saw a slight increase in unemployment. The unemployment rate in Worcester was 3% in October, a 0.1 percentage point increase from September. This number is still lower than area unemployment numbers at this time last year, when the rate was 4%.
Other regional cities saw unemployment rates either stay the same or increase slightly; Fitchburg’s rate remained at 3.4%, while Leominster’s rate increased from 2.7% in September to 2.9% in October.
The overall state unemployment rate was 2.6% in October, according to MDER.
