The unemployment rate for the hub of Central Massachusetts was 4.5 percent in July, down from 5.6 percent the year before and from 4.7 percent in June. However, this is still higher than the statewide adjusted unemployment rate of 4.1 percent.
The Worcester numbers compare favorably against the Leominster and Gardner area that had a 5-percent unemployment rate for July, which is still down substantially from 6.4 percent a year prior.
