An administrator at Donna Kay Rest Home in Worcester has been indicted on charges related to an alleged scheme to embezzle more than $220,000 from the rest home and its senior residents, according to a Monday press release from the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell.

Rhode Island resident Luiza Wade was indicted on Thursday with 12 charges brought against her, including four counts of larceny over $250 from a person 60 years or older or disabled; four counts of larceny over $1,200; two counts of forgery; one count of false entry in corporate books; and one count of tax evasion.

The Attorney General’s Office alleges Wade fraudulently deposited at least $220,000 in funds from the rest home and more than 40 of its residents into her personal bank accounts between June 2018 and May 2021.

The charges purport Wade forged resident signatures and neglected to declare the money as income on her Massachusetts tax returns.

The charges follow a recent string of local healthcare fraud indictments including a Worcester dentist in June and four Worcester healthcare providers announced in April, both charged with their involvement in alleged schemes involving MassHealth, the state’s Medicaid program.
