The Worcester-based law firm of Fletcher Tilton & Whipple PC has officially changed its name as of March 1 to Fletcher Tilton PC, dropping the Whipple from the letterhead.
Fletcher Tilton traces its roots back to 1822, but its current name was the product of the merger of two firms - June, Fletcher & Whipple and Tilton, Erskin & Berkeley - in 1974. Since that time, it had been known as Fletcher Tilton & Whipple. Partner Robert Whipple retired from the firm in 1996.
As part of the name revision, the firm updated its logo and made a small adjustment to the firm's colors.
The new name does not signify any change in the ownership structure of the firm, but it does point to an evolution, according to Frederick M. Misilo Jr., an officer at Fletcher Tilton.
"It really reflects the development of the firm to reflect the 21st century that we find ourselves in," he said, adding that the firm has grown beyond its roots in the trust and estate area to be a full-service organization with expertise in a variety of fields.
Misilo also said that the new name came out of a strategic planning process that the firm has been involved in over the last 14 to 15 months.
"This is a part of that strategic plan to really begin to focus the firm with regard to our presence in Worcester and MetroWest and throughout the state," he said.
Fletcher Tilton has 48 attorneys and 25 paralegals in its offices in Worcester, Framingham and Hyannis.
