Personal income in Worcester rose 3.4 percent last year, higher than a national income growth of 2.9 percent, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Personal Income rose in all but four of 366 metro areas analyzed by the BEA.
Worcester's personal income increased from $33.7 million in 2009 to to $34.9 million. That compares with $34.1 million in 2008.
Boston, by comparison, saw its personal income grow 3.1 percent to $253 million.
Earnings grew in 18 of 21 private industries, averaging a 2.8 percent increase. That's after a 6.5 percent drop in earnings in 2009.
Health care and education sectors led the way in earnings expansion, growing at 3.3 percent and 6.2 percent respectively.
