Worcester hotel slated for supportive housing project sold for $10.8M

A hotel property at 50 Oriol Drive in Worcester, which will be turned into a 90-unit permanent supportive housing development, was sold for $10.8 million.

An affiliate of nonprofit community development corp. Worcester Community Housing Resources purchased the Quality Inn and Suites property from GS Hotel Management LLC of Worcester in a transaction recorded on Wednesday by the Worcester District Registry of Deeds.

WCHR announced in November that it will work with Eliot Community Human Service of Lexington to provide permanent housing with wraparound services to people in need. It hopes to begin leasing units in 2024.

Despite pushback from concerned neighbors, the Worcester Planning Board approved the project in January.

The project is located near two separate large market-rate residential projects on Oriol Drive, also approved by the planning board.

GS Hotel Management last purchased the property in 2008 for $4.8 million. The four-acre site, including the hotel structure, is assessed by the City of Worcester for $5.9 million.
