The staff at Whittier Health Network facilities have begun receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

The healthcare organization announced in December that vaccinations would begin on Dec. 29. The release did not detail which vaccine staff would be receiving, but that it was of the mRNA type created by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.

The vaccine distribution began at the health organization’s skilled nursing facilities, through a partnership with CVS, and will expand to transitional care units, such as Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westborough, starting Jan. 4.

Senior management at Whittier will receive the vaccine to show leadership to staff and to prove the vaccine is safe.
