Kopin Corp., a Westborough-based electronics manufacturer, has received an approximately $6-million follow-on order for its line of thermal weapon sight eyepiece subassemblies.

This new order from the U.S. Department of Defense could triple the company’s thermal weapon sight production volumes for fiscal 2024 when compared to 2023, according to a press release issued by the company on Monday.

“This fourth follow-on order we have received for this product is a testament to Kopin’s responsiveness and reliability in delivering weapon sights and targeting products in this fast-changing global environment,” Bill Maffucci, Kopin’s vice president of business development and strategy, said in the release.

The eyepiece subassembly is a component provided to a DoD prime contractor to produce an augmented reality see-through display, allowing a user to target through the site while video, symbols, and other information are overlaid on the display.

“This most recent order is the result of our continued focus on becoming a world-class developer and manufacturer of application-specific optical solutions that consistently delivers on-time and in-full quality.” Michael Murrary, Kopin’s CEO, said in the press release. “This additional order adds to an already strong order book and is the foundation for significant revenue and profitable growth, in 2024 and beyond.”

Murray became Kopin’s CEO after the company’s founder, John C. C. Fan, stepped down from the role in September 2022. In January, the company laid off about 30 workers following a restructuring.
