John C. C. Fan, the founder of Westborough-based Kopin Corp., has officially stepped down as the company's CEO and named his successor.
The company, which was founded by Fan in 1985 and operated under his leadership since then, has named Michael Murray as its next CEO, effective Sept. 6. An engineer by training, Murray joins Kopin from Ultra Electronics Group, a British defense and security company, where he was president of the cyber business.
Fan said the company has been searching for the right person to succeed him for awhile. He said he fully supports and recommends Murray as the next CEO.
He will stay on as the company's chairman and work closely with Murray throughout the transition, he said. For Kopin, Fan will focus on strategic and scientific matters especially related to the Metaverse.
Before working at Ultra Electronics Group, Murray was executive vice president at Aceinna and head of the industrial sensing business unit at Analog Devices. In previous roles he was involved in overall strategy of the business, product development, manufacturing, sales and marketing, and acquisitions.
He holds an associate's degree from George Brown College in Canada, a bachelor's and master's degree from Northeastern University, and a master's in business administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
