Kopin Corp., a Westborough-based manufacturer of optical and electronic display equipment, has announced it has received over $4.4-million worth of new contracts and follow-on orders.

The company received several new orders from multiple companies, totalling in excess of $3 million, for simulated thermal sights that are used in armored vehicle training systems, according to a press release issued by Kopin on Wednesday.

“Kopin has a long history of supplying advanced training systems that create high fidelity simulated situations that the crews experience in fielded armored vehicles,” Bill Maffucci, senior vice president of business development and strategy, said in the release. “Our supply of both the tactical and training versions of these display systems allows Kopin to accurately reproduce the look and feel for training systems, resulting in maximum effectiveness when training our warfighters.”

Kopin stated the company believes that the recent use of armored vehicles in multiple conflicts will lead to further increased demand for this product. Armored vehicles have been widely utilized by American-aligned countries involved in active wars, including Ukraine and Israel.

The announcement of these new orders follows a Tuesday release that announced a follow-on order of $1.4 million by an unnamed international client for a long-range optical weapon sight produced by the company. Kopin said that this sight utilizes augmented reality technology that results in a clearer and brighter optical display for users.

“This follow-on order highlights Kopin' continuing leadership in designing and manufacturing sophisticated weapon sight eyepieces not just for U.S. soldiers but also for our foreign allies,” Maffucci said in the release issued Tuesday. “This order is an example of our microdisplays and optical subassemblies proving their effectiveness in the most rugged environments around the world.”

The company did not respond to an email from WBJ requesting details on the identity of the foreign client.

Kopin also received a $6-million follow-on order from the U.S. Department of Defense in December for its line of thermal weapon sight eyepiece subassemblies.

In addition to serving the defense industry, Kopin also produces products used in industrial and medical settings.
