Eric Casey, who has served as Worcester Business Journal's staff writer since October 2023, has been promoted to managing editor.
In this new role, Casey will help set newsroom policy and strategy, and he will be directly in charge of administering all the advice and opinion columns submitted by community contributors. Casey will continue his work as a reporter covering the Central Massachusetts economy, particularly the real estate and manufacturing industries.
"As a young, talented, and rising journalist, we are thrilled to have Eric take on greater responsibility in the WBJ newsroom," WBJ Editor Brad Kane said. "In a very short time, he's already had an impact on the community with deeply reported stories on key issues, and his new role will help elevate the level of journalism throughout Central Massachusetts."

Over the past year, Casey has written a lengthy investigation into the dysfunction of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, a two-part enterprise series on the transformation of the Canal District since Polar Park opened, a deep dive on the impact of Hollywood strikes on Worcester's budding film industry, and a feature on the rise of candlepin bowling.
"I’m excited to be taking on a bigger role at WBJ," said Casey. "Working for a locally owned publication in the region I’ve lived my whole life has been a great opportunity, and I’m very appreciative of the support I’ve been given.”
Prior to joining WBJ, Casey ran Burn After Reading, an online publication focusing on the cannabis industry. He has worked as a freelance reporter for numerous outlets, including Worcester Magazine and Different Leaf Magazine.
He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, where he studied history and political science. He grew up in Marlborough and is a resident of Worcester.
