Northeastern University’s report on the future of manufacturing in the Bay State caused us to pose this question on LinkedIn: How do you feel about the industry here?

PITCHING FOR CAPITAL

Our Know How article in the Sept. 3 edition, “How To Pitch To Private Investors,” drew this piece of advice on how not to pitch: One element that needs focus is the entrepreneur’s need to understand the market size for his/her business. Too many times, entrepreneurs approach investors with reasoning of “Well, there are 300 million people in the U.S., so if 1/10 of 1 percent buy the product, then we’ll all be rich!” That’s a good way to be shown the door. Instead, entrepreneurs need to understand how much is spent on similar products each year in the markets they plan to address.
