SMALL BUSINESS PRAISE
Our Aug. 20 story, "The Lending Landscape," addressed financing sources available to small businesses in Central Massachusetts. This comment addressed the role of small business in the economy:

MANUFACTURING OUTLOOK
Northeastern University's report on the future of manufacturing in the Bay State caused us to pose this question on LinkedIn: How do you feel about the industry here?
It will take time to resolve these issues but we need to be proactive, and sometimes that means spending to get out of a recession and taking risks.

PITCHING FOR CAPITAL
Our Know How article in the Sept. 3 edition, "How To Pitch To Private Investors," drew this piece of advice on how not to pitch: One element that needs focus is the entrepreneur's need to understand the market size for his/her business. Too many times, entrepreneurs approach investors with reasoning of "Well, there are 300 million people in the U.S., so if 1/10 of 1 percent buy the product, then we'll all be rich!" That's a good way to be shown the door. Instead, entrepreneurs need to understand how much is spent on similar products each year in the markets they plan to address.
