WBJ Talk Back from the Sept. 12, 2011 issue

Email Etiquette

The Digital Diva column from the Aug. 29 issue tackled the issue of getting your email inbox in order. The topic spurred this comment from an online reader who called for proper “email etiquette” training in offices:

"[Email etiquette] is all about responsibility — thinking of others before you hit send and ensuring that the emails you send are professional and courteous. By establishing good email etiquette email can become a fast and efficient medium of communication in the workplace."

Expand The Bottle Bill?

The perennial issue of whether the Bay State should expand its bottle recycling program was the subject of an Aug. 29 op-ed by Chris Crowley of Worcester’s Polar Beverages. Crowley is an opponent of the bottle bill’s expansion and his piece sparked this online reader’s reaction:

"They call themselves a green company and are attacking Massachusetts' most effective recycling program? Real recycling? Get real!"

Brand Awareness

The topic of marketing the city of Worcester has caught fire on the Worcester Business Journal LinkedIn Discussion Group. The city manager and lieutenant governor have put forth a proposal to merge some marketing efforts in the city under one umbrella. That proposal sparked a reader to ask group members what they would do if they were in charge of marketing Worcester. There were several suggestions, including this following call for a strong mayor:

"Worcester needs a strong mayor with a marketing/promotion mentality and a vision of what a progressive, urban major city should look like."

~ Harrison Greene, LinkedIn Discuss Group member
