WBJ Talk Back

BOOSTING JOBS IN WORCESTER

The Dec. 19 op-ed column by Stephen Eide of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau brought out these two comments on LinkedIn:

“Forcing to hire locally does not mean they are getting the best people for the job. I understand the idea and it hits that emotional side but Worcester needs to become a better city. Most of Worcester’s residents are blue collar and if these residents are worthy then they should get the job but not because they live here.”

“A good contractor will bring local and distant subcontractors into a work site as needed – union or non-union – based on merit. The government can only help by getting out of the way, making sure there’s a level playing field and not by being in the middle of everything with more rules, regulations and restrictions.”

UP WITH TEST-OPTIONAL SCHOOLS

Our Dec. 19 article, “Colleges Loosen Up On Admission Tests,” drew this positive response from an online reader:

“Great article. Testing-optional schools also tend to attract students who themselves are more holistic and interested in personalized education.”
