Venture Deals Fall Worldwide

Total international venture capital investments dropped slightly in the third quarter with European deals falling, American deals remaining about steady and investments skyrocketing in Asia, according to New York-based Dow Jones VentureSource.

There were 995 venture capital deals worldwide during the third quarter worth $7.8 billion. That's down slightly from the 1,075 deals worth $7.9 billion last year.

Chinese venture deals increased 32 percent to 64 deals worth $603 million, while venture investments in Indian companies were up 24 percent.

There were more venture deals in the United States during the third quarter compared to last year but the average size of the investment was smaller. The number of deals increased 2 percent to 662 investments but the total investment decreased 5 percent to $5.5 billion.

European deals fell to their lowest levels in 10 years, with $1.2 billion being invested in 198 deals, that's down from 263 deals during the same time period last year.
