U.S. job growth strong for Nov.

The U.S. economy added 321,000 jobs in November, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
The job gains marked the tenth straight month of above 200,000 in growth, and a jump from the October figure of 214,000 added jobs. The unemployment news is also positive; the 5.8 percent unemployment rate the BLS reported for October was a six-year low.
Job gains were widespread, led by growth in professional and business services (86,000 jobs), retail trade (50,000), health care (29,000), and manufacturing (28,000).
The nation has about 9.1 million unemployed, the BLS said. Over the year, the unemployment rate declined by 1.2 percent, and the number of unemployed people declined by 1.7 million, the BLS reported.
The number of long-term unemployed -- those jobless for 27 weeks or more -- was little changed at 2.8 million in November. These individuals accounted for 30.7 percent of the unemployed.
Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for adult men rose to 5.4 percent in November. The rates for adult women (5.3 percent), teenagers (17.7 percent), whites (4.9 percent), blacks (11.1 percent), and Hispanics (6.6 percent) showed little change from the October jobs report.
The number of people employed part time but who would prefer to be working full time showed little change in November at 6.9 million.
The BLS also revised upward its numbers of added jobs from the previous two months. September numbers were revised to 271,000 from 256,000, and the October numbers were revised to 243,000 from 214,000 jobs. With the revisions, employment gains in September and October combined were 44,000 more than previously reported.
