American Family Care, an urgent care and accessible primary care provider, opened its second Worcester location in August at 926 West Boylston St., a long-vacant retail location once home to a Blockbuster Video store.
The six-exam-room clinic offers walk-in urgent care, on-site lab testing, vaccinations, on-site x-rays, and occupational health services, according to an August 24 press release from AFC.
“We’re thrilled to open our 21st location in Massachusetts, especially in a city like Worcester that is growing so quickly right now,” AFC Chief Operating Officer Jason Badyrka. “With this second clinic in Worcester, we can give more patients the option of reasonably priced, convenient and high-quality healthcare.”
In 2016, AFC announced that it would open a Doctors Express location at the site in 2017, but that location was never opened for reasons not disclosed by the company.
The property at 926 West Boylston St. was sold in December 2021 for $1.1 million, and again in August 2022 for $2.9 million.
AFC is currently developing 15 additional locations in Massachusetts including a second Springfield location in December, according to a company spokesperson.
AFC is based in Alabama and oversees a network of more than 300 franchised urgent care facilities. It projects that number will increase to 500 by 2025, according to the company’s website.
