The University of Massachusetts Medical School has hired James B. Leary, who currently serves as chief of staff for Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray, as associate vice chancellor for community affairs.
In his new position, Leary will promote the medical school's relationships with community organizations, civic leaders and government representatives from the area. He is scheduled to start the new job in early June.
Leary is a graduate of Assumption College and has a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. He served as assistant district attorney for the Middle District, which covers Worcester, from 1996 to 1998. He has also served as state representative for the 14th Worcester District, representing the Worcester and West Boylston.
He lives in Worcester with his wife, Carolyn and their three children.
