UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester has received official approval from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for medical schools in the U.S. and Canada, to establish its new regional campus in Burlington in partnership with Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.
Dr. Anne Mosenthal, chief academic officer at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, which is part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, will be the inaugural regional executive dean of UMass Chan-Lahey. The regional campus will include a hub for a new institute for health care delivery science and quantitative science research, according to a Thursday press release from UMass Chan.
The new regional medical campus will follow the model established at Baystate Health in Springfield, which houses the school’s Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health track. The Burlington campus’s track will focus on health systems science, leadership training, and interprofessional education. Open to students enrolling at the medical school in August 2024, the new track will be called LEAD@Lahey.
“Students who train at the UMass Chan-Lahey regional campus will have an added focus on health system science, team training, leadership and communication skills,” Dr. Anne Larkin, associate professor of surgery and vice provost for educational affairs at UMass Chan, said in the release.
