Uber riders will receive an email on Tuesday morning from the transportation company and Mother's Against Drunk Driving reminding them on the first day of legal marijuana sales in Massachusetts that driving while high is dangerous.
The email, which will be sent to Massachusetts users of the ride-sharing app, will remind residents of the laws about driving under the influence of any substance, and encourage anyone using marijuana not to drive.
"Driving under the influence, like drunk driving, is preventable. Marijuana usage impacts the skills needed to drive safely. If you are under the influence of any substance, make the right choice and don't get behind the wheel," reads the email, an advance copy of which was shared with the News Service.
The first two legal, retail marijuana shops are due to open Tuesday morning in Leicester and Northampton.
Email recipients will also be provided with a link to a website that includes facts about marijuana from the Centers from Disease Control about how pot can slow reaction times and impair coordination, the effects of which can be greater when mixed with alcohol.
Uber and MADD, according to the company, have been working together since 2014 to encourage people to seek alternative means of transportation when they have been drinking.
