Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston has changed its name to New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, the organization announced on its website Wednesday.
The name change is meant to reflect the botanic garden’s vigorous growth over the past few years, and its “goal of helping people all over New England make joyful connections with plants,” the announcement said.
Under the leadership of CEO Grace Elton, New England Botanic Garden has undergone a $15-million construction project aimed at widening its audience, including accessibility upgrades, a parking lot expansion, and a children’s garden called The Ramble.
The name change coincides with the ribbon cutting for The Ramble, which is set for April 22.
The botanic garden, which is also home to the Worcester County Horticulture Society, was seeing consistent visitation growth before the coronavirus pandemic and expects to see an even greater increase with the completion of its expansion.
“Our new name reflects the growth the garden has experienced over the past few years into a regional destination that not only captivates visitors with the wonders and beauty of the garden but also the importance of promoting sustainability and biodiversity in the natural world,” the announcement said.
Along with the name, the organization debuted a new logo depicting an apple blossom in an arch, which represents the historic apple orchard at Tower Hill.
