Three marijuana retailers will go before Worcester regulatory boards this week to add to the growing queue of cannabis companies looking to do business in the city.
At Wednesday’s Planning Board meeting, often an applicant's first appearance in front of city regulators, Cultivate Holdings and Nature’s Remedy will ask for special permits to operate retail stores at 1025 Southbridge St. and 142 Southbridge St., respectively.
Cultivate was one of the first two retailers to open stores last November, when it began selling in Leicester. The company also has a store planned in Framingham and is eyeing building more cultivation space in Uxbridge and Leicester.
The company’s Worcester location is on the site of a former manufacturing property, recently demolished.
Nature’s Remedy opened its first adult-use cannabis store in Millbury along Route. 146 last week, joining four others in Worcester County. The company’s Worcester store would be located in retail space next to Union Music.
At the License Commission on Thursday, retailer Suns Mass II, LLC is requesting a retail marijuana license. The company was granted a special permit by the Planning Board in July.
Currently, there is just one state-authorized operating adult-use dispensary in the city, Good Chemistry, which is one of just three proposed Worcester retailers to be granted a retail marijuana license from the city along with Mayflower Medicinals at 645 Park Avenue and The Botanist at 65 Pullman St.
The city has said it will permit up to 15 recreational cannabis retailers.
