February 4, 2008 FRESH FACES

The Baker And Ad-Maker

If you have something to sell, Danielle Cyr can make sure that it gets out to the market looking its best. Advertising, after all, is something that she’s loved even before she went to college.

Cyr, 24, is the newest account coordinator at Co-Communications in Simsbury, a public relations and marketing firm. The Manchester resident graduated in 2006 from the University of Hartford with a degree in communications with emphasis in advertising and public relations.

“I had great experiences in college,” Cyr said. “Advertising and PR are so interconnected I feel that I bring both perspectives to the table...I was fortunate going to college knowing what I wanted to get out of the experience.”

Cyr completed an internship at Lang/Durham while a student. She also was a member of an advertising competition sponsored by the American Advertising Federation and was a presenter for her 13-member team at the national level.

“We won the district competition for marketing Yahoo Internet to teenagers and developing a media plan for the product,” Cyr said. “We got to move on to the national level.”

Fresh out of college, Cyr worked at Data Reporting Corp. where she had worked part time through her senior year.

She spent almost three years there, working in public records research and print advertising for trade publications.

“It was a good opportunity to see the creative process from an in-house [perspective] at the agency,” Cyr said.

She now works in a wide range of capacities at Co-Communications from compiling industry research to seeing creative ideas placed throughout the media, and helping move the total product along for the customer.

“It’s a collaborative effort within the agency and with clients,” Cyr said. “We deal with a wide range of industries including IT, insurance, real estate and entertainment.”

Her role also includes more of a writing component that Cyr enjoys.

“I get to manipulate information and draft documents that showcase everything for a product,” she said. “It’s always challenging to bring new ideas to the table.”

Though she enjoys decorating cakes and baking on the weekends, Cyr knows she has found a good fit with the career she has chosen.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that advertising is something I will want to continue doing,” she said.
