Tegra grows through flexibility, quality

Courtesy Lee Crowe, vice president of sales and marketing at Tegra Medical.

The medical device field is one of constant change. Franklin-based Tegra Medical stays competitive in this space by focusing on quality and giving their original equipment manufacturer customers what they need, when they need it. The contract manufacturing organization was established in 2007 and employs 740.

Vice president of sales and marketing Lee Crowe spoke about recruitment tactics, quality assurance, and the company’s international presence.

What does your company make?

We make medical devices and components for OEMs.

Which markets do you serve?

Orthopaedic, minimally-invasive surgery, interventional therapies and others.

How do you stay ahead of the competition?

By being the end-to-end solutions provider our customers need to outsource their entire manufacturing lifecycle from prototyping to production, delivering what they need when they need it, and infusing impeccable quality into every step.

How do you ensure quality?

We’re ISO 13485 certified and FDA compliant. Ourdedicated quality team includes Black Belt-certified engineers and takes steps such as examining first-pass yields, using real-time statistical process control, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and validated processes.

Describe your international operations.

We have a manufacturing plant in Costa Rica, allowing us to be a major player in a significant medical device marketplace.

How do you recruit new employees, and which positions are you currently recruiting for?

In addition to advertising online and posting on our website, we take pride in working with local vocational schools and colleges to offer internships and apprentice programs. We’re currently recruiting in all four of our locations, with jobs such as managers, machining operators, technicians and engineers.

What are your long term plans for the company?

The medical device field is always evolving, so our goal is to always be flexible and adapt to ensure we’re positioned to meet the need of our customer base.

Any additional information you would like to share?

We feel it’s important to give back to the community, so there’s often a fundraiser or other event going on in all our facilities.  From blood drives, toy drives and food drives to “adopting” families headed by single parents, we feel that a company cannot do enough for the community in which it resides.
