More workers are putting in longer hours – and liking it – in part because they’re working more at home, according to the results of a survey by a Chelmsford company.
Captivate Network, a content management provider for business professionals, said 11 percent more workers are reporting a healthy work-life balance this year than in 2011, when the company last conducted the survey.
But at the same time, 30 percent more employees out of the more than 4,000 across North America whom the company surveyed said they’re working more than nine hours a day.
Those two results led Captivate to call this “homing from work.”
“People seem to be getting more comfortable with putting in longer hours,” said Scott Marden, research director at Captivate. “Part of that appears to come from the growing ability to take care of personal business during the workday.
Marden added that workers are using some of that time at home to tend to personal activities “that are on their minds during the workday.” Those activities include entertainment, surfing and shopping online and shopping in retail stores, the survey found.
