Survey: Keep Resume Full

There may not be anything worse than being unemployed during an economic downturn, and results of an OfficeTeam survey indicate that the economy doesn't make employers sympathetic about gaps in applicants' resumes.

The survey asked executives how concerned they are about a candidate's fitness for a job if his or her resume shows involuntary employment gaps. A full 93 percent of respondents said they are either very concerned or somewhat concerned. Only 5 percent said they were not very concerned and 1 percent said they weren't concerned at all.

OfficeTeam, a temporary staffing service for administrative personnel, said applicants with gaps in their job histories should be able to provide a brief explanation, highlight positive aspects of his or her resume, tell the truth about his or her unemployment, beef up resumes with referrals or take on temporary jobs to avoid employment gaps.
