The owner and operator of Sturbridge BBQ restaurant B.T.’s Smokehouse have selected a site on Park Avenue in Worcester as their second location.
“It’s a very high traffic location. It’s centrally located in Worcester between the downtown area and the west side,” said Billy Nemeroff, who is currently the operations director at B.T.’s Smokehouse and will be the co-owner and operator of the Worcester location. “We wanted to make sure it was centrally located so everyone has access to it.”
The new restaurant will be called B.T.'s Fried Chicken and BBQ, said Nemeroff.
The Worcester License Commission on Thursday will hear a request for both a common victualer license and an entertainment license for the location at 318 Park Ave., which is on the corner with Chandler Street. Those licenses will be granted to a corporation called Smoke & Water LLC, which is registered to Nemeroff and B.T.'s Smokehouse owner Brian Treitman.
Nemeroff said there is no firm date yet set for opening the Worcester location, as the former sandwich shop site has been vacant for two years.
“We want to get it right, and we are not rushing anything,” he said.
The location will serve the same barbecue B.T.’s Smokehouse is known for, but also serve fried chicken every day, something that the Sturbridge restaurant only does the first Tuesday of every month. The Sturbridge location will serve some dishes not available at the Worcester location, but both restaurants will smoke meat on-site.
Nemeroff, who has owned his own restaurants and worked at numerous Worcester establishments such as the People’s Kitchen and Ceres, said he is excited about the new location at one of Worcester’s busiest culinary areas and continuing to cook barbecue.
“It brought me back to my southern roots,” Nemeroff said of the shift to counter-service barbecue. “I grew up in Virginia, and BBQ has always been near and dear to me.”
