Framingham craft brewery Exhibit 'A' Brewing Co. announced Tuesday it will become a recycling center for a unique beer can holder commonly used in the brewery industry.
Exhibit 'A' reached the deal with Oregon manufacturer PakTech, which makes the plastic holder for four- and six-pack of beer. While the PakTech can holder is more durable and recyclable than the flimsy plastic rings more commonly associated with older cases of domestic beer, most single-stream recycling facilities are not able to properly sort the PakTech holder, according to Exhibit 'A'.
The brewery has reached an agreement with West Boylston recycling firm Stockbridge Plastics, LLC to pick up the PakTechs and bring them to a reprocessing facility.
“The PakTech holders are HDPE Grade #2, which is a highly desired reusable plastic. By ensuring the purity of the plastic we are sending out, it’s not hard to find a facility that will reprocess it," said Kelsey Roth, Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing general manager.
Exhibit 'A' has put a PakTech recycling container in its taproom and is encouraging patrons to drop off the holders, even those for other breweries.
