State Will Pay For Milford’s Route 16 Design Work

The state Department of Transportation has agreed to pick up the tab for the final $378,000 to design improvements to Route 16 in Milford.

The total construction costs are projected to be $3.5 million and work may not begin until at least 2011. But, to qualify for further funding design work has to be finished, which officials hope will be done by the end of the year.

The project includes resurfacing, adding concrete sidewalks, wheelchair ramps and road signs as well as retiming seven traffic lights. It will be done from the intersection of Route 16 and Route 85 about one mile south to the intersection of Route 16 and South Main, Congress and Water streets.
