St. Mary’s Credit Union names new COO, among four promotions

St. Mary’s Credit Union in Marlborough announced on Tuesday the promotion of Jim Petkewich to chief operating officer.
Petkewich previously served as the credit union’s executive vice president of retail services, as part of his 38-year career in the banking industry.
As COO, Petkewich’s new responsibilities entail deposit services, marketing, and compliance, among his other retail branch responsibilities, per the release. Petkewich established St. Mary’s Credit Union’s member experience committee and serves on the finance committee for the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Petkewich takes over the COO position from Larissa Thurston, who was promoted to CEO of St. Mary's on Oct. 1. Thurston is the first female CEO in the credit union's 108-year history.
In addition to the promotion of a COO, St. Mary’s Credit Union on Tuesday announced the promotions of three other officers.
Christine Monteiro of Hudson was promoted to senior vice president of retail, filling the position Petkewich once held. Monteiro joined St. Mary’s Credit Union in 2004, previously serving as senior vice president and branch administrator for the credit union’s Hudson location.
John Hendrikse of Charlton was appointed senior vice president and senior lending officer after serving as senior vice president of lending. He graduated from Calvin University in Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Sarah Day of Marlborough was promoted to senior vice president of commercial lending. A former Worcester Business Journal 40 Under Forty Award recipient in 2013, Day previously served as the credit union’s marketing manager before joining the commercial lending division.
