St. Mary’s Credit Union, headquartered in Marlborough, has named Larissa Thurston as its next CEO and president, the first woman to lead the organization since its founding in 1913.
Thurston most recently served as St. Mary’s chief operating officer and chief financial officer, and she will replace current CEO James Garvey, who announced his impending retirement. Thurston will assume her new role effective Oct. 1.
Thurston is a resident of Bolton and serves as member-at-large on the board of directors executive committee at the United Way of Tri-county, as well as treasurer on the board of directors at the Boys & Girl Club of MetroWest, and is on the member advisory panel of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston.
Garvey served as president and CEO of St. Mary’s for eight years, part of a 40-year career in the financial services industry.
