Special Olympics Gets Donation

Walmart, the international retailer with 46 stores in Massachusetts, donated $50,000 to the Special Olympics of Massachusetts in Marlborough.

The money will be used to place medallions in each of the company's stores across the state, as well as in the Special Olympics of Massachusetts' new building in Marlborough.

About half of the money will also be used to support Special Olympics of Massachusetts programs around the state.

The Special Olympics of Massachusetts opened its new $10.8 million facility on Forest Street in Marlborough in late 2009. The organization serves about 11,000 athletes annually.
