Cannabis producer Sira Naturals is planning a third facility in Milford to nearly double its building footprint in town.
Although not officially proposed to the town, the company and CEO Michael Dundas held an informational meeting in Milford earlier in July at which he presented plans for a facility up to 90,000 square feet.
Of that, about 65,000 square feet would be used for cannabis cultivation. Per state law, a company can only operate up to 100,000 square feet of canopy.
The company has been operating since 2017 out of a 30,000-square-foot cultivation and product manufacturing facility in an industrial park in Milford and is building another 26,000-square-foot facility nearby to be operational by the end of the year, Dundas said.
The company has been approved to grow recreational marijuana, but its three dispensaries in Cambridge, Somerville and Needham are only authorized for medical sales. Needham has banned recreational sales, so that store will stay medical only for the foreseeable future, Dundas said.
Adult-use sales applications for the other two dispensaries have not yet been submitted to the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission. A cultivation license application for the facility currently under construction is pending before the CCC.
