Summer hiring helped to decrease unemployment rates in several Massachusetts labor markets in June while rates in other markets held steady or increased, the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development said.
The Barnstable and Pittsfield areas saw seasonal job gains in July compared to June and lower unemployment rates were reported in Tisbury, Nantucket and Great Barrington.
Unemployment rates remained unchanged between June and July in the Framingham, Pittsfield and North Adams areas and four of the state's other labor markets reported unemployment rate increases of less than a tenth of a percentage point.
The Worcester area was not one of those four. Its July unemployment rate hit 9.7 percent, up from 9.3 percent in June. The Worcester area's unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in July 2008.
