Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester is relaunching its volunteer program, which has been closed since shortly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program had approximately 100 individuals in its volunteer program lineup before its closure. Volunteers have not been hosted at the hospital since March 2020, Shawn Middleton, communications and PR manager at Saint Vincent told WBJ. The hospital placed a call for volunteer applicants on Monday.
Volunteers are required to volunteer for 50 hours per calendar year or 50 per school year for student volunteers, according to Saint Vincent’s website. High school students over the age of 16 are eligible to apply to volunteer, as are adult members of the community.
Volunteer positions are available at the hospital as well as off-site services, including the cancer center, physical therapy offices, and ambulatory clinic. Volunteers can use the program to gain experience in a medical setting, and in some cases, secure letters of recommendation for college applications of employment, according to Saint Vincent’s website.
