Quinsigamond Community College has announced that in unanimous approval of the school's fiscal year 2013 budget, its board of directors also voted to expand the school's Health Care and Workforce Development programs in Worcester.
The school has not announced where the expansion would be.
Chairman Ron Josephson said, "It is the board's responsibility and privilege to support this initiative and we wholeheartedly do. The need for more space and state-of the-art facilities has been uppermost in our minds for some time now and we're pleased that we're able to proceed with this important expansion."
The school said the board's decision was greatly influenced by a desire to assist in the revitalization of Worcester, citing that most graduates of the Worcester college stay in the area and add $223 million in income to Central Massachusetts.
QCC said that in 2005, the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education said the school was at capacity with 5,970 students. Today, it reports an increase of nearly 55 percent, having 9,130 students. In 2010 and 2011, QCC expanded to locations in Southbridge and Marlborough.
