Project New Hope granted $50K as this year’s Neighborhood Champion from Bank of America

Project New Hope in Worcester has been named among this year’s Neighborhood Champions by Bank of America for the nonprofit’s work supporting veterans in Central Massachusetts.

As this year’s Neighborhood Champion in the region, Project New Hope will receive $50,000 and virtual nonprofit leadership training from Bank of America with the goal of expanding the nonprofit’s service reach.

Previous winners of the Bank of America award include Worcester food nonprofit Regional Environmental Council in 2023, child welfare nonprofit CASA Project Worcester County in 2022, and Family Health Center of Worcester in 2021.

“Veterans and their families in our community often face barriers to accessing essential services, whether it’s support for mental health, basic necessities, or navigating complex systems,” said Bill Moore, president and CEO of Project New Hope, in a Nov. 25 press release from Bank of America.

Project New Hope offers human services to Central Massachusetts veterans and their families with the mission of providing service members with a place to rebuild in honor, according to the nonprofit’s website. The organization offers retreat options including a veterans mindfulness meditation retreat and a women’s veteran healing retreat utilizing The Cortina Method, an approach to addressing trauma.

In addition, Project New Hope provides a food and baby pantry, school supplies to dependents of service members, and gifts to military and veteran families during the holidays.

“This funding and leadership training from Bank of America will empower Project New Hope to reach more families, enhance our programs, and create sustainable solutions to these challenges. We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to grow and continue serving those who have given so much for our country,” Moore said.

Established in 2011, Project New Hope generated $670,112 in revenue in 2023 with $509,184 in assets, according to nonprofit financial tracker GuideStar.

“The Worcester area is fortunate to have a strong network of nonprofits that provide vital solutions to local challenges," Michael Garand, president of Bank of America Central Massachusetts, said in the release. “Project New Hope has had a profound impact over the years on countless individuals and families. Providing high-impact nonprofits like Project New Hope with flexible funding and leadership training helps them strengthen our community.”
