The nonprofit CASA Project Worcester County was granted $50,000 as part of being named the 2022 Bank of America Neighborhood Champion.

CASA is a child welfare organization training volunteers to become court-appointed advocates for abused and neglected children in Worcester County. The $50,000 grant will help to fund the expansion of its services, including addressing educational deficits caused by the COVID pandemic.

“The Neighborhood Champion grant will enable CASA to support more foster children throughout Worcester County in more comprehensive and proactive ways. We are honored and grateful to be selected and are committed to stewarding and investing these funds judiciously,” Julie Bowditch, executive director of CASA Project Worcester County, said in a Thursday press release.

The Neighborhood Champion program is part of Bank of America’s philanthropic initiative, Neighborhood Builders, in which the bank has invested $6.3 million. Last year, the Family Health Center of Worcester was named the bank’s 2021 Neighborhood Champion.

Bank of America is the largest bank in Central Massachusetts, with $7.1 billion in local deposits at 27 branches in the region.
