The Town of Oxford received a $2.8-million award through the state’s MassWorks Infrastructure Program, which will go toward infrastructure improvements to help commercial and residential developments.
The grant will fund the extension of an existing sewer main to serve commercial properties along Route 20 and in adjacent industrial parks, according to a Thursday press release from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
The extension will help in “removing a long-standing barrier that has prevented area businesses from growing and expanding,” the announcement said.
Along with the extension, the award will fund infrastructure improvements at the Thayer Pond Village pumping station. The upgrade will open the way for the proposed Southbridge Place, a 150,000-square-foot commercial development with 320 units of housing.
MassWorks’ Infrastructure Program is a part of the Community One Stop for Growth platform which launched in January 2021 and has funded 196 grant awards.
