Office Naptime

Morning coffee breaks and long lunches may take some workers off task some of the time, but, according to a new survey, the very end of the work day tends to be the least productive time in the office.

In a survey of more than 1,000 senior managers developed by the staffing company Accountemps, 37 percent of respondents said 4 to 6 p.m. was the least productive time of day. The next most popular choice was 2 to 4 p.m., at 28 percent.

Nineteen percent chose noon to 2 p.m., 10 percent picked 8 to 10 a.m. and just 4 percent said 10 a.m. to noon.

The firm said officer workers can take steps to make sure they’re using their time productively. Its hints include planning the day to handle more challenging tasks early and do routine, low-energy work late in the day; taking a quick walk to recharge; eating well and keeping a to-do list.
