Energy infrastructure solutions provider NORESCO said Wednesday it secured a contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide nearly $22 million in energy upgrades at two VA hospitals.
Through the guaranteed energy savings performance contract, the Westborough company will help reduce heating energy costs by up to 70 percent at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., and at the El Paso VA Health Care System in El Paso, Texas. The contract will allow the El Paso VA to meet or exceed its renewable energy goal.
Facility improvements will include energy management control system enhancements, air handler upgrades, new boilers, chilled water system improvements, and the installation of high-efficiency LED lighting technology, according to NORESCO.
Total cost savings over the course of the contract are estimated to be more than $33.8 million and the upgrades will eliminate the introduction of nearly 18.3 million pounds of emissions into the atmosphere. That’s about the same amount of energy as removing 2,000 cars from the road.
