A study has found that nearly 60 percent of nonprofits plan to hire in 2016, which is not only up from 2015 but exceeds the 36 percent of private companies that are planning to hire.
The ninth annual Nonprofit Employment Practices Survey from Nonprofit HR found that 57 percent of nonprofits expected to hire at least one new employee in 2016. This was up by seven percent over 2015. In contrast, a study from Careerbuilder found that private companies planning to hire in 2016 had stagnated at 36 percent, the same level as 2015.
According to the survey from Nonprofit HR, the growth is not isolated to large and medium-sized nonprofits, with small nonprofits also anticipating hiring. This is important, according to the study, because quality employees can greatly increase the nonprofits’ ability to positively impact their communities.
The study also found ongoing growth in the nonprofit industry, with 51 percent of organizations increasing their staff size in 2015, compared to only 19 percent in 2009 and 44 percent in 2011.
The report has been produced annually by Nonprofit HR since 2007 and includes responses from 443 nonprofits in the U.S. and Canada that serve as a representative sample of the makeup of the sector.
