No excuse, no sick day

If your sniffle doesn't sound realistic when you call out sick, your employer may be calling to check up on you, according to a CareerBuilder.com survey of workers and hiring managers. The survey revealed 32 percent of workers have called in sick when they were actually healthy at least once in the last year and 75 percent of employers say that while they generally believe excuses given by employees, thirty-five percent of employers said they have checked up on an employee who called in sick. When asked to share unusual excuses for calling out sick, replies included: "Employee said her chicken's feet were frozen to the driveway" and "Employee tasted some dog food because the dog wasn't feeling well and now the employee is sick."
